Professor Xu Lianggao

Birth Place and Date:
         Heshan County, Anhui Province; March, 1966.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Education:
1982—1986,  Bachelor’s Degree with outstanding performance,
            Department of Archaeology, Peking University.

Qualification:
 1991,      appointed as Assistant Research Fellow of Institute of
             Archaeology, CASS
 1997,      appointed as Associate Research Fellow of Institute of
             Archaeology, CASS
 2004,      appointed as Research Fellow of Institute of Archaeology CASS, and Professor of the post-graduated school, CASS

Working history:
1982—1986, participating in the excavation of the Qucun site of Jin
             Kingdom (about 1000-700BC) in Shanxi Province and
             Jinnansi site of Shang Dynasty (about 1600-1300BC) in
             Hubei Province
1986,        formally employed by the Institute of Archaeology, CASS
1986—1988, excavating and researching on the capital city site of
             Shang Dynasty (about 1600BC) in Yanshi County, Henan Province. Also, participating in the unearth works of the imperial courts relic of Shang Dynasty and tombs of Han and Tang dynasties.
1990—1996, participating in the national project of excavating and
             preserving of the capital site of Chou Dynasty (about
             1100- 700BC) in Fenghao, Shaanxi Province.
1996—1999, appointed as the director of the archaeological team,
             continuing excavation and research on the Fenghao site.
             Starting in 1996, also presiding over the excavation of another capital site of Chou Dynasty (about 1200-700BC) in Chouyuan, Shaanxi Province.

Research  Projects:
undertaking the research project of “The Origin of
the Ancient Chinese Civilization” sponsored by the Youth Research Foundation of Social Sciences. Providing new findings about ancient Chinese history and new research approaches which all could be found in my book “Ancestry Worship—An Approach to the Origin of Chinese Civilization”.
1997—2000  presiding a sub-project(“ chronological research on
            Fenghao Site”) of the national key research program of
            “ The Xia-Shang-Chou Dynastic Chronology Project”.
Have achieved breakthrough in the definition of the date of the event of“King Wu defeat King Zhou of Shang Dynasty” and in the study of the culture developments in the early years of Chou Dynasty, which won high attentions from the domestic academia and abroad.
