The Tonglin site is located in Linzi county, Zibo city, Shandong province, which is a large-scale settlement with an area of roughly 3000000 square meters. There are rich cultural deposits at this site including Dawenkou culture and so on, in which the main cultural remains belong to Longshan culture.
The analysis is based on the flotation results at Tonglin site in 2003. The researcher has mainly analyzed the characteristics of the agricultural economy in the period of Longshan, Yueshi and Shang and Zhou Dynasties. For example, the agriculture played an important role in Longshan period, it declined dramatically in Yueshi culture and continued to decline in Shang and Zhou Dynasties.
Besides, the researcher has established a new standard for the identification of carbonized foxtail millets from archaeological sties through an experiment about the processing of foxtail millets and preliminarily judged the crop processing area may be not in the excavation area in 2003. It may be in a certain place at the site. If it were true, it would be a new clue to explore the social organization in ancient times.
Research on the archaeological culture in Shandong area where Tonglin site located has been considerable, but details of the agricultural economy are still limited. This research has provided new materials for the study of the agricultural economy in this area. Meanwhile, this dissertation has offered a new understanding of the status of the rice agriculture, dry-land agriculture and crop processing. If similar researches were conducted in other sites, there should be important discoveries.
