Professor Wang Wei, Director of the Institute of Archaeology, led a five-member delegation on a visit to Russia as part of a programme of academic exchanges between the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences. The delegation was in Russia between September 9th, 2008, and September 18th, 2008,  and its members visited the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Archaeology and the Institute of Archaeology at the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk) during their stay. Professor Wang Wei was joined by Chen Xingcan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Archaeology; Zhu Yanping, Director of the Centre for Foreign Archaeology; and two research fellows, Cong Dexin and Liu Guoxiang.     

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The delegation received a warm welcome during their time in Russia. Professor Wang’s delegation held meetings with Makarov Nikolaj Andreevich, Head of the Institute of Archaeology at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Professor Viacheslav Ivanovich Molodin, Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Archaeology at Novosibirsk. Both parties were able to engage in academic exchange, collaborate on research projects and reach an initial consensus. During their visit, the delegation were also able to share their thoughts on their profession with colleagues from the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Hermitage Museum.
