In recent days, the first stage of the archaeological excavation has finished in Gezishan Ruins in Qingtongxia City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. 

 

After a month's work, over 9000 burned stones, more than 600 chipped stone tools, over 200 polished stone implements and other tools are excavated in the site. A few decorations, semi-finished crafts made by ostrich egg shells and herbivorous mammals' teeth and bones are found as well. 

 

Wang Huimin, a researcher from Ningxia Provincial Archaeology Institute, said that the types of stone implements, the number of instruments for production and production techniques have shown that ancient people living there had greatly improved their ability to adapt to the changes of environment and provide evidence for techniques and transition of primitive agriculture. Some of these samples will be sent to Chinese Academy of Sciences and other institutions for further test and analysis.

 

Gezishan Ruins, discovered in 1984, is located in the east Helan Mountain area. Over 2500 animal fossils and all kinds of stone-made tools were excavated and collected there. In 2006, it was listed as the important heritage site under state protection.
