Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute announced on Wednesday that the total burial area is located in Taiping in Jingyang county, Shaanxi province, and covers an area of around 130,000 square meters.

The burial site spans a number of dynasties, and most of the tombs were built in the Western Zhou Dynasty (1050 — 771 BC), the institute said.

Archaeologists have found two to four horses and a chariot in each of the six pits, and the excavation is still continuing.

The discovery provides important information about the burial customs and life of ancient people in the area.
