A tombstone dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) carrying the history of a man and his two wives was unearthed in north China's Hebei Province, local authorities said Friday.

The cuboid, 100 cm tall, 45 cm wide and 18 cm thick, was found at a construction site in the city of Bazhou, with inscriptions showing it is a tombstone of a man and his two wives, according to the city's cultural heritage administration.

"Judged from the inscriptions, we can conclude the man was an official of the Qing Dynasty. But as the stele and the inscriptions are incomplete, further investigation for more information is needed," said Wang Tong, head of the administration.

The tombstone has been preserved by the administration and the tomb has not been found near the site where the stele was evacuated.
