Professor Cui Zhijiu from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the Beijing University visited the Lajia site in late June for the research on prehistoric natural disasters in Guanting Basin, Qinghai, where the site is located. As a famous geologist who had been to the Arctic, the Antarctic, and the Everest, he is now the director of a state major project of natural sciences - “Man-land Relationship in Historical Period in North China”.


Professor Xia Zhengkai (Cui’s student) from the Department of Geology of Beijing University, Professor Ye Maolin (director of the fieldwork at Lajia) from the IACASS, Dr. Yang Xiaoyan (director of the project - “Flood and Human Societies in the Upper Yellow River Valley in the Recent Epoch” funded by National Natural Sciences Fundation) from the Geology Institute of Chinese Academy of Natural Sciences, and students from the Bejing University and Lanzhou University accompanied Cui’s visit. 

Cui conducted an intensive survey on the natural environment and traces of prehistoric disasters around the site during his three days visit. He affirmed that earthquake and flood did happened in prehistoric time and caused some changes of landscape of Guanting.
Cui’s visit starts the new round of multi-disciplines study on man-land relationship in prehistoric time in Guanting Basin.
