Ancient Temple to Be Relocated in Central China

From:Xinhua News NetWriter:Date:2006-03-12

Archeologists will relocate a temple built in the early Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) in Anyang, an ancient city in central China's Henan Province.

The relocation will set many technological records if successful, said Du Qiming, director of the Henan Ancient Architecture Preservation Research Institute.

Three of the ancient buildings will be relocated without being dismantled but the other ten-plus buildings will be dismantled first and then combined together in the new site, Du said.

The new site is about 300 meters away from the current location and three meters lower, making the project remarkably difficult, Du said.

The temple is a prized cultural heritage, combining China's early philosophies of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism and displaying ancient China's architectural and religious development.
