Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Archaeology Forum To Be Held in Beijing

     The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Archaeology Forum will be held in Beijing on January 13, 2010, and will focus on archaeological discoveries made in the People's Republic of China in 2009. Six major archaeological discoveries have been selected for close examination in this year's programme.  
The forum will be presided over by Shi Jinsong, Research Fellow and Director of the CASS Institute of Archaeology's Archaeology Press. A summary of the day's main events is shown below :
 
●9:00 - 9:30 : Opening ceremony

9:30 - 10:20 : The Neolithic ruins at Dongshan Village in Zhangjiagang, Jiangsu Province.
Speaker : Zhou Runken, Institute of Archaeology, Nanjing Museum. 
Expert Commentary by : Wang Wei, Research Fellow and Director of the Institute of Archaeology, CASS.

10:20 - 11:10 :  The Lower Xiajiadian site at Erdaojingzi in Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. 
Speaker : Cao Jian'en, Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Inner Mongolia Cultural Relics and Archaeology Institute.
Expert Commentary by : Zhu Yanping, Research Fellow and Director of the Centre for Foreign Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, CASS.

11:10 - 12:00 : The Western Zhou ruins at Chenzhuang Village in Gaoqing County, Shandong Province.
Speaker : Zheng Tongxiu, Research Fellow and Director of the Shandong Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology.
Expert Commentary by : Li Boqian, Professor and Director of the Aurora Centre for the Study of Ancient Civilizations, Beijing University. 

13:30 - 14:20 : The Gaoling Mausoleum at Xigaoxue village in Anyang, Henan
Speaker: Professor Pan Weibin from Henan Provincial Institute of Archaeology.
Expert Commentary by: Professor Liu Qingzhu from Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

14:20 - 15:10 : The Lu Clan burial grounds of Northern Song Dynasty at Wulitou in Lantian County, Shaanxi Province. 
Speaker : Zhang Yun, Research Fellow at the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology.
Expert Commentary by : Meng Fanren, Research Fellow at the Institute of Archaeology, CASS.

15:10 - 16:00 : The ruins of paper-making workshops of the Song, Yuan and Ming era at Hualin in Gao'an, Jiangxi Province. 
Speaker : Xiao Fabiao, Research Fellow at the Jiangxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. 
Expert Commentary by : Su Rongyu, Research Fellow at the Institute for the History of Natural Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

16:00 - 16:30 : Closing ceremony. 
 
     The CASS Archaeology Forum is an academic forum for modern Chinese archaeology which was established in 2002 and is jointly organised by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of Archaeology (CASS) and the Archaeology Press. The Forum is a platform for the exchange of information on the latest archaeological discoveries and developments in Chinese archaeology and was established with the aim of encouraging academic exchange and promoting the development of modern Chinese archaeology as a profession.  (Translated by Kelly McGuire)
