Xi'an will invest 12 billion yuan to reconstruct ancient walls

The Xi'an government will invest 12 billion yuan for the reconstruction of ancient walls and will construct four museums at the four ancient city gates, according to a plan by Xi'an government.

The "Overall Upgrading Plan of the Xi'an Ancient Walls," conducted by the Qujiang New Zone Management Commission in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi Province. They also claimed that visitors can "see 3,000 years of history in half a day."

The reconstruction plan titled "Ancient Walls to Experience a Beautiful Change" has raised questions from all social circles since it was first released and is considered as "too commercial and too extravagant," involving a large scale of investments.

The commission's plan involved 12 billion yuan of investments and has been initially completed, according to Xi'an Qujiang New Zone on April 16. Xi'an will make full efforts to construct a three-dimensional ancient wall vestige and tour system with "walls, forests, roads, rivers and alleys," thus transforming the ancient wall scenic spots into "world famous comprehensive humanities scenic spots."

According to the plan, the four city gates on the world's best preserved ancient city wall will be transformed into four museums represented by four dynasties—the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties.

In addition, it will also mould sculptures of ancient soldiers standing or lying on city walls, battlements, and watch towers to interpret offensive and defensive scenes in ancient times in a lively fashion.
