The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) recently discovered a patrol road and a ditch for defence dating back to the Koguryo Dynasty, the official news agency KCNA reported on Thursday.

According to the KCNA, the historical relics which were discovered by a research team from Kim Il Sung University were excavated on the Chongam-Dong Earthen Walls in Taesong District, Pyongyang. The walls served as ones for defending Pyongyang, the capital of Ancient Korea.

The road found outside the walls, paved with flat stones, is 1.8 meters wide and 20 meters long. This road was confirmed to be used for patrolling the walls in the period of the Koguryo Dynasty, said the report.

Similar roads have been discovered sometimes inside the walls, but never outside the walls in Korea so far, the report added.

The ditch, which is 4 meters in width and 1.5 meters in depth, was believed to be used for preventing aggression by outsiders.
