Stegodon fossils found in Chongqing
Two more stegodon fossils have been excavated from a site in Wanzhou of Chongqing Municipality. It has never been seen in the archaeological history of East Asia.
The three fairly complete stegodon fossils have been found in the same site according to an expert at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Also for the first time, researchers found Smilodon fossils and chalicothere tooth fossils at the site.
Fossils of the ancient species will provide valuable clues to study on the region's geological and climate changes in ancient times.
The Wanzhou District Museum is going to restore the two fossils so as to make them more valuable in scientific study.
