【Abstract】 The Miaogang site in Yancheng county, Henan is mainly a Neolithic site and also contains some remains of the Longshan, Erlitou, Western Zhou and Eastern Zhou cultures. The discovery of the site through surveying is of importance for investigating the situation of late Neolithic cultures and pre-Qin and settlement distribution in Luohe region.

Settlement Archaeology Survey in the Huangtucheng Area within Huaibin County,Henan (15)

【Abstract】 Huangtucheng Regional Archaeological Survey Project aims to find settlement and artifact pattern of this area from 5000 BCE. to the modern times, providing basic settlement pattern information, answering the rise pattern of the Huangtucheng site, changes pertaining from the first village, middle-ranged society, the urbanization and state; and the relationship between the survey area and the neighboring areas. Full-coverage regional survey method, as being examined in a dozen of areas in China, has also been proved effectively in our research area. More than 76 sites and 441 temporal components have been found in this area of around 200 sq. km, at a radius of 7 km of the Huangtucheng site. Twelve phases have been carefully examined and settlement pattern of different phases vary over time. This survey is the first regional archaeological survey conducted in the Huai River region. Our studies have shown that the Huai River region is also an important region for cultural changes and complexity development in the history.

Excavation of the Song Period Mural Tomb at Lijiachi in Linzhou City, Henan (32)

【Abstract】 An ancient tomb was found at Lijiachi village in Linzhou city in March 1982 when villagers were leaving up lands. It is a mural tomb of imitation timber structure with tomb passage, gate, vaulted passage, and chamber. There are only two white glazed bowls left in the tomb due to being robbed. The content of fresco is relatively rich including feasting pictures and twenty-four filial stories. The tomb is dated to the Song Dynasty.

Excavation of the Foundations of the Large Pavilion at the Observatiory in Dengfeng City, Henan (40)

【Abstract】 The foundation of main palace at Dengfeng stellar observatory is the only excavated foundation of main palace dating to the Yuan Dynasty in Henan. The evidence of its location, constructing method, unearthed artifacts, and feature of components suggests that it is the Yuan architecture and part of stellar observatory. The excavation of the foundation of main palace is of significance for restoring Yuan architecture and revealing its function.

Comparison of the Donghuishan, Sanxingcun and Pingyang Cemeteries with Neolithic Burial Grounds in the Average Life Span of Population (58)

【Abstract】 The average age of population in Chinese Neolithic Age is 19.99 years. The average expected age for the Neolithic population had increased 2.66years throughout 3000 years. No matter the Neolithic inhabitants or historic ones, the average age of males was commonly higher than that of females. In the same period, the average age for the inhabitants in the Yellow River valley was probably higher than in the Yangtze River valley. The health condition for the Neolithic people was better than that for emergent state period.

【Abstract】 The archaeological excavation report Yuchisi in Mengcheng is a comprehensive and systematic summation of the rich material from the Yuchisi site in Mengcheng in 1989-1995,The cultural remains can be divided into two periods each with two developmental stages, the cultural remains corresponding to late Dawenkou culture dated to 2900--500BC.

Cause of the Formation of the "Theory Denying the Existence of the Xia Dynasty" (90)

【Abstract】 The formative reason of "the vies of negative Xia Kingdom" is complicated. The school of "Gushibian" over doubted historical literature resulting in negating Xia. The historical record about Xia is relatively simple and lacks the exact validation of unearthed writing characters. Foreign scholars are not fully aware of Chinese historical traits and research situations, and there is lack of sufficient communication between Chinese and foreign scholars. However, the fact that some western scholars have serious prejudice to Chinese academic research, and Chinese scholars have paid less attention to foreign related research is the main reason for the prevalence of "the view of negative Xia Kingdom".

A Study of the Plaques with Symmetrical Designs of the Warring States Period in the Daihai Area (96)

【Abstract】 This thesis uses the genetic method to discuss the origin of metal S-shaped and square phoenix shaped plaques excavated in Daihai. They are similar to the jade plaques from the Central Plain tracing to the Western Zhou Dynasty. The plaques, no matter metal or jade, share the same decoration style in the Warring States Period. According to the evidence above, a conclusion is drawn that jade was replaced by metal to make plaques in Daihai area. Decorative part on human body depends on the apparent altitude, and the noticeable belts suggest that the owners belong to a riding group.

【Abstract】 The object of this paper is to research graves of Chu’s capital in the Western Han Dynasty(This area including Xuzhou and its surrounding areas).First, it attempts to build the chronological sequence through the analyses of the typical grave goods. Secondly, it investigates the composition and their relationship of cultural elements. Then it aims to primarily discuss the historic evolution of the Han culture in this area.

【Abstract】 The architectural funerary objects buried in Han tombs are architectural models incorporated production and living as well as recovery and entertainment. They are the result of manor economy. No matter chambers of Han tombs per se, or architectural funerary objects buried in chambers, are provided with such character of manor economy, symbolizing temporal architectural entities in true-life.

【Abstract】 This paper discusses minority images on the frescoes in Wei-Jin tombs from Hexi corridor based on archaeological materials and historical documents. The evidence of various minority images is consistent with the situation of national amalgamation at that time. Different nationalities explored Hexi corridor together and promoted social development.

【Abstract】 This paper analyzes the records on Zhi Yan Epitaph and Zhi Jinglun Epitaph unearthed from Luoyang in the 20thcentury,and discusses the situation of Zhi Yan family about movement,being officials and amalgamation with Han nationality. It argues that the two epitaphs are of importance for investigating the Rouzhi people and the amalgamation between various nationalities in mediaeval times, and also reveals the important position for Luoyang in the Sino-west communication and national amalgamation at that time.

【Abstract】 The stone pagoda part unearthed from eastern Dulongfu in Nanjing is the only one so far dating to the Southern Dynasty. The relief pattern of imitation timber structure carved on the part vividly reflects the structural character of square timber pagoda in the Southern Dynasty. It is of significance for investigating the shape and structure of timber pagoda as well as the cultural relationship between China and Korea and Japan in the Southern and Northern Dynasty.

Reconstrucition of Paleo-environments and the Condition of the Upper Liaohe River Valley in the Recent Epoch (136)

【Abstract】 Environmental archaeology has much improved in the past decades and it becomes a popular subject in Chinese archaeology today. The theory and method of environmental archaeology adopted by Chinese archaeologists have brought Chinese archaeology in a new era and will continually associate with Chinese archaeological research in the future. Environmental archaeology has requested archaeologists not only have qualified training in archaeological studies but also have an extended knowledge and skills in the studies of environmental science in order to meet the international standard. Among the environmental studies, particularly for the purpose of archaeological study, to be able to understand the basic method of palaeo-environmental reconstruction is essential. This paper attempts to use simple way to introduce the basic knowledge and method of environmental reconstruction and to present a tentative result of environmental reconstruction based on available environmental studies in one specific area, Liaoxi region in northeast China, to demonstrate how significance of understanding the methodologies in environmental reconstruction in current environmental archaeology.
