The Second Shanghai Archaeology Forum opened, World's Major archaeological discoveries and researches announced

The second Shanghai Archaeology Forum (SAF) organized by the Shanghai Academy, the Institute of Archaeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage, and Shanghai University, was held this morning in the in the Lecture Hall of the Library of Shanghai University. Mr. Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai joined the ceremony and gave a welcome address, which was followed by a congratulatory addresses delivered by Mr. Liu Yuzhu Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. The Opening Address was given by Professor Wang Weiguang, the President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

A total of 93 nominations were made to the 2015 SAF Awards program by the SAF Advisory Committee consisting of about 150 renowned scholars in various fields of archaeology and cultural heritage from 45 countries. The nominations were reviewed and adjudicated by the SAF Selection Committee comprising 38 international experts from 16 countries in the world, according to the highest international standards of excellence and impartiality. A total of 40 nominations were shortlisted after the first round of reviews and adjudications in which 35 Selection Committee members were actively involved. During the second round of adjudications, with valid votes from 33 Selection Committee members, a total of 21 out of 40 shortlisted nominations were selected for the 2015 SAF Awards, including 10 Field Discovery Awards, and 11 Research Awards.
