The Human Origins and Evolution Research Center was established in 2022. It is responsible for advancing major research on the origins and evolution of humankind, drawing on China’s abundant fossil hominin remains and Palaeolithic cultural heritage. The center focuses on tracing the origins and evolutionary processes of humans in China and East Asia, and addresses academic questions concerning the physical evolution, cultural development, subsistence strategies, environmental adaptation and resource utilisation of ancient East Asian populations. Through comprehensive, interdisciplinary research integrating fields such as palaeontology and genetics, the center seeks to reconstruct the trajectory of human origins and evolution. It conducts in-depth analysis of the biological, environmental, and social factors involved in human evolutionary processes, aiming to reveal the underlying patterns and mechanisms of human evolution. Its goal is to promote multidisciplinary integration—combining anthropology, genetics, geology, ecology and related disciplines—to advance research on human origins and evolution.
