World Archaeology Division

The World Archaeology Division was established in 2019 as the Division of Foreign Archaeology and given its current name in 2022. Its primary mission is to carry out joint archaeological work overseas. The division currently oversees archaeological teams in Egypt, Central America, Central Asia, Romania and the Indus region. It is conducting field surveys and excavations at the Temple of Montu in Karnak (Egypt), Copán in Honduras, Mingtepa and Monzhatepa in Uzbekistan, Dobrovat in Romania and locations in the Indus Valley region of Pakistan.
The goals of the Division are to deepen understanding of civilizations outside China, promote comparative studies of world civilizations that foster mutual learning, enhance cultural exchange, communicate Chinese history and culture, amplify China’s cultural voice, strengthen the international academic influence of Chinese Archaeology and establish a Chinese discourse system within the global scholarly community to attain a greater voice in international academic dialogue.
