Founded in 1955, the Editorial Division of Archaeology is in charge of academic journals and monographs hosted by the Institute of Archaeology, CASS. In 1997, based on the editorual office, Archaeology Press was established with four editorial departments and a general department. Its tasks are editing and publishing the academic journals Kaogu (Archaeology), Kaogu Xuebao (also known as Acta Archaeologica Sinica), Kaoguxue Jikan (Archaeological Cellectanea ), Chinese Archaeology (English version), and Zhongguo Kaoguxue Nianjian (Almanac of Archaeology in China).
Kaogu and Kaogu Xuebao have appeared repeatedly on the “Most Internationally Influential Academic Journals of China” list and are included in the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index source journal list. Since 2002 to present, the Archaeology Press has organised the Archaeology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences: China’s New Archaeological Discoveries, which promotes the development of Chinese archaeological scholarship and advances archaeological journal publication.
