Gao Wei

Wei is an Assistant Researcher in the World Archaeology Division. He is an Egyptologist with broad research interests, including the evolution of ancient Egyptian temples and comparative studies between ancient Chinese and Egyptian civilisations. He has been with the Institute since 2016.
He currently works as member of the Egyptian-Chinese Archaeological Mission at the Montu Temple in North Karnak (Luxor), Egypt.
Wei was born in Langfang, Hebei Province. He received an education in archaeology and egyptology from French universities: BA in Archaeology (2009) and MA in Egyptology (2014) at the University Paul-Valéry (Montpellier 3), under the supervision of Bernard Mathieu. He then moved to Paris to pursue a PhD at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) under the supervision of Laurent Coulon, obtaining his doctorate in 2022.
