Liu Qingzhu，Male, born on August 9, 1943 in Tianjin, with ancestral home in Nanle County, Henan Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China.

He graduated with a degree in Archaeology from the Department of History at Peking University in 1967. Since the 1970s, he has successively served as Director of the Office of the Xianyang Regional Cultural Relics Administration Committee. He joined the Institute of Archaeology in 1979, and has held the following positions successively: Leader of the Qin-Han Yueyang City Site Archaeological Team (1980–1982), Leader of the Han Emperor Xuan's Duling Mausoleum Archaeological Team (1983–1985), Leader of the Han Great Wall Site Archaeological Team (1985–1990), Director of the Xi'an Research Office (1986–1992), Director of the Han-Tang Archaeology Division of the Institute of Archaeology (1992–1993), Deputy Director (1993–1997) and Director (1998–2006) of the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Research Fellow, and Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Institute of Archaeology (1998–2006).

He was awarded the title of Expert Receiving Government Special Allowance issued by the State Council in 1992, and ”Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions” by the Ministry of Personnel of the People's Republic of China in 1997. He became a Member of the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2006, and served as Director of the Academic Division of History (2010–2019).

His other previous and current academic and social positions include: Former Secretary-General of the Archaeological Society of China; Former President and Current Honorary President of the Chinese Yuanmingyuan Society; Honorary President and Consultant of the Chinese Ancient Capital Society; Chairman of the Academic Degree Committee of the Department of Archaeology, Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Member of the Academic Committee of the School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University; Member of the Expert Committee of the School of Chinese Classics, Renmin University of China; Adjunct Professor, Distinguished Research Fellow and Academic Advisor at various universities and research institutions including Wuhan University, Northwest University, Fudan University and the Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Museum; Member of the Academic Committee of the Tang Daming Palace Academic Research Institute; Former Vice President and Current Chairman of the Academic Committee of the China Yanhuang Culture Research Association. In 1998, he was conferred the title of Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute.

He served as Chairman of the Editorial Board of Archaeology and Acta Archaeologica Sinica (2001–2017), Editor-in-Chief of Acta Archaeologica Sinica and Collected Papers of Archaeology (1999–2017), and Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Archaeology (English Edition) (2001–2017). He is also a Member of the Chinese Local Records Guidance Group of the State Council, Member of the Expert Advisory Committee of National Philosophy and Social Sciences Research, Expert of the Archaeology Discipline Review Group of the National Social Science Fund of China, National Expert with Outstanding Contributions, and Expert Receiving Government Special Allowance issued by the State Council.
