Biographical Profile
Wang Renxiang, Research Fellow, graduated with a degree in Archaeology from the Department of History, Sichuan University in 1977, and then entered the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to study Neolithic archaeology under the supervision of Professor Shi Xingbang, obtaining a Master of Arts degree in History. He has successively served as the leader of the Sichuan Team, Tibet Team and Gansu-Qinghai Team of the Institute of Archaeology, as well as the Deputy Director of the Prehistoric Archaeology Division and the Director of the Frontier Archaeology Research Center.
Major Work
He has participated in and presided over the archaeological surveys and excavations of many important sites, including Dachang in Wushan, Chongqing (in the submerged area of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River); Qugong in Lhasa, Tibet; the Tibetan Royal Mausoleums in Qonggyai; Shifodong in Gengma, Yunnan; Shizhaocun and Xishanping in Tianshui, Gansu; Hulijia and Lajia in Minhe, Gansu; Zhongzipu in Guangyuan, Sichuan; and Suhutu in Alxa, Inner Mongolia. Among these, the excavations of the Qugong Site and the Lajia Site were selected as China's Top Ten Archaeological Discoveries.
His main research interests include Neolithic archaeology, art archaeology and food archaeology. He has served as the chief editor and author of more than 100 works of various types.
